What to Ask Your Builder When Enquiring about a Second Storey Addition, Home Extension or Home Renovation in Perth

Dec 22, 2014

When you are doing any major home renovations in Perth, you are going to talk to at least one builder. You may decide to talk to many before you find one who can provide what you need to turn your current home into your dream home. Whether you need a second storey addition, a home extension or some basic home renovations, here are some questions you should ask your Perth builder.

How Much Experience do You Have?

While we know everyone starts somewhere, you want an experienced builder. Your home is too important to entrust to someone who hasn’t “been there and done that.” Every home is unique and poses unique problems. Make sure your builder has the experience to handle them and provide you with professional work.

Do You Specialise in Home Renovations?

While it may all seem like building, the skill set for renovating or adding on to an existing home is a lot different than that of building a home from scratch. It is much more demanding from a design standpoint and the margins for error are smaller. You want a builder who specialises in renovations and additions.

Are You Licensed and Insured?

This may seem too fundamental and obvious, but many builders aren’t. Ask to see documentation of both licence and current insurance.

What is Included in My Price?

Make sure that there are no “surprises” or hidden costs.

How Long will it Take to do the Work?

A quality builder will give a firm deadline.

Can I See an Example of Your Work?

Remember that you don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy here. Think of what it would be like if you had work done and people were taking tours through your home. Some good testimonials will work fine, too.

For a builder who can answer all these questions perfectly, call 1300 948 094.
