When to Choose a Home Extension

Mar 10, 2016

A home extension is a great way to make your home larger. Many of your Perth neighbours are choosing this option.

Are you outgrowing your house? Do you need more space? Are you dreading the long, arduous process of selling your current home, finding a new one and moving, trying to make it all happen at exactly the same time while juggling the duties of two working parents and kids who are in school?

You can save yourself all that hassle if you build a home extension onto your current home. We have been providing home extensions and second storey additions to the Perth area for a combined 70 years and we covered building a second storey addition in the previous blog post. Here are some of the reasons for building a home extension.

Why Home Extensions are so Popular in Perth

If your current home is on a large enough block of land and there are no extreme slopes close to your current house, a home extension may be perfect for you. There are numerous benefits to building a home extension.

Home extensions don’t require as much structural additions as a second storey addition, so they can be performed for less money per sqm. Many councils have less regulations on home extensions than they do second storey additions. It can be less expensive to keep a first floor home extension cool in the summer than it is to cool a second storey extension.

If you don’t like stairs, the same-floor home extension is definitely for you. Since you won’t be building stairs with your same-floor home extension, you will be able to more fully use your space. A large, one-level home also has a lot of room for design creativity, such as partially open floor designs and incorporation of alfresco living areas.
