Lately, it seems like no home extension or home renovation in the Perth area is complete without a nice alfresco area.
While some people just use the slab on their patio for their outdoor flooring, there are a lot of very nice options that can add a touch of luxury to your alfresco area. Here are the most popular options.
Natural Stone
Natural stone is one of the better looking flooring options, but it can be expensive. Besides their great appearance, they are extremely durable. Once you put in stone flooring, it is there for the life of your home and pretty much maintenance free. You can use irregular shapes to create a mosaic effect or go with straight cut stones to provide a uniform look. The expense for both materials and labour is the only real sticking point with stones.
Concrete
Recent advances in concrete stamping and colouring allow concrete to provide a look very similar to that of stone, but for a lot less money. They are also very durable and don’t have a lot of maintenance. But they to tend to crack more than stone. The upside is that they are fairly easy and inexpensive to replace.
Wood
Wood decks are less expensive but they do require more maintenance. A wood deck needs to be cleaned regularly and sealed at least every two years. Depending on usage, you may need to restain, refinish and reseal more often. A wood deck is a great option where the ground has a slope that precludes stone or concrete, because the deck can be built above the ground.
Tile
Tile can be a nice option. The problem is that they need to be slip-resistant and they need to withstand outdoor temperature extremes and cycles. You also need to seal an outdoor tile floor to ensure that the grout doesn’t crack.
